About Botho University

In 2013 Botho University celebrates 16 years of supporting the Botswana economy by transforming the education scenario of Botswana. Started in 1997 as NIIT a computing training institute, in response to Botswana Government’s call for ICT capacity building, the institution soon became Botho College on 29 June 2009,a multidisciplinary education provider offering more than just computing programmes.Botho College has been given University status by the Tertiary Education Council as of March 2013. With this Botho University becomes Botswana’s first homegrown private University.

Botho University is one of the largest private tertiary institutions registered with the Tertiary Education Council (TEC)and the Botswana Training Authority(BOTA). All our programmes are fully accredited by the TEC and BOTA. Botho University is also majority citizen owned institution, promoted and managed by well qualifiedand experienced professionals.

Botho University has traditionally been offering Computing programmes from NIIT and from well-known and internationally recognised UK Universities such as The Open University, UK and Teesside University UK bringing great benefits to students in Botswana. From January 2010 onwards Botho University started offering Accounting and Business programmes thus setting the stage for the establishment of a multidisciplinary institution. It is the first private institution to offer the Botswana Institute of Chartered Accountants BICA qualification. In 2013 Botho University received approval from TEC to offer new degree programmes in Business Management, Health Information Management and Accounting. Botho University team of academics keeping in mind the industry needs of Botswana and international relevance has developed these new programmes. Other programmes in the pipeline include degrees in Jewellery Design and Management, Network Design and Digital Forensics, Mobile Computing, Hospitality Management and a new Engineering faculty. BothoUniversity also offers a Masters Degree in IT and a Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education, which can assist with staff development in the tertiary sector.

Within a framework of rigour and academic excellence, Botho University has embarked on an ambitious Strategic and Long Term Plan, which provides a road map for it to become a leading quality education provider in the country. Botho University aims to be a force to reckon with in the educational sector in Botswana and our graduates will lead the way in our journey to becoming the regional hub for academic excellence.
